Ms. Christine Musisi is a development professional who has served in the United Nations for over 20 years in various countries and in different capacities. She is currently the Director of the External Relations Division at UN-Habitat; she has held senior positions in UN Women and UNDP in Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. Ms. Musisi has led innovative initiatives in Local Economic Development, Poverty Reduction, Social Mobilization, civil society empowerment and Gender and Development. Christine is a visionary leader known for her ability to innovate, turn complex concepts into actionable interventions while empowering her teams and partners to stretch for results. Christine is a visionary leader who has a commitment to empowering others especially women, for success and lasting results. 20 years of development experience in Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and the U.K. Policy Advisor and Senior Manager in various positions focusing on poverty reduction, civil society empowerment, gender equality and women's empowerment, local economic development, local self-governance, democratic governance, transformational leadership. Bachelor's in Business Administration and Management; Postgraduate in Rural Extension and Women; Master's in Gender Analysis in Development. More than 20 years' experience in senior management, programme direction and policy advisory positions; has pioneered innovations in social mobilization, local self-governance, local economic development, women's economic empowerment and leadership and civil society empowerment. Specialist in poverty reduction, civil society, gender equality and women's empowerment. Has held in-country positions in Uganda, United Kingdom, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan and Ethiopia; also served as Senior Regional Policy Adviser, Eastern Europe and CIS, Slovakia, and as Policy Adviser and Head, Policy and Technical Cluster, Regional Service Center, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Johannesburg, covering Eastern and Southern Africa; former Deputy Country Director, Ethiopia, UNDP. Since 2012, Regional Director, UN Women East and Southern Africa. Has recently led interesting work in promoting a gender responsive extractive industry.
